Fexicrade 200 tablet

Introduction

Fexicarde 200 is a broad‑spectrum, non‑systemic gastrointestinal antibiotic used for the treatment and prevention of certain types of diarrhoea and gut‑related infections. It contains rifaximin 200 mg, a rifamycin‑class antibiotic that acts locally in the intestine to inhibit bacterial RNA synthesis, thereby controlling pathogenic gut flora while largely remaining unabsorbed into the systemic circulation.

Key uses

  • Infectious diarrhoea and traveller’s diarrhoea caused by susceptible organisms (e.g., certain strains of Escherichia coli).

  • Management of hepatic encephalopathy (lowering recurrence risk) by reducing ammonia‑producing gut bacteria.

  • Other gastrointestinal conditions where selective gut decontamination is desired.

Dosage and precautions

  • Typical adult dose ranges from 200–400 mg two to three times daily, adjusted as per indication and physician’s advice; for Fexicarde 200, strength and regimen must follow local prescribing guidelines.
